Christy Zylstra shared with us another one of her family’s Christmas traditions! Each year, she makes a creamy and delicious lasagna for Christmas Day to share with friends and family. And who doesn’t love lasagna? It’s one of those cozy family meals that everyone enjoys, especially during the holidays.
To spend less time in the kitchen and more time with loved ones, Christy bakes the lasagna in the same utensil used to make the meat sauce. The rich combination of cream cheese and Parmesan layered between the lasagna noodles and sauce makes this dish extra delicious!
This recipe can be prepared ahead of time and popped in the oven when ready to eat. If you’re looking for a veggie lasagna, Christy has that too! See the ingredients below for meat substitution suggestions 😉 This recipe serves 12 to 15!
15-20 sheets of lasagna
1 lb ground chuck or 1-1/2 cups veggies of your choice
1 lb Italian sausage or 1-1/2 cups veggies of your choice
1-1/2 cups grated Parmesan cheese, plus 1/2 cup extra
16 oz cream cheese, softened
4 whole eggs
2 tbsp dried parsley
4 cups marinara sauce
4 cups diced tomatoes
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp Italian seasoning
Salt to taste
1-1/2 tsp cracked black pepper
6 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Preheat the Gran Cacerola on medium heat. Add the beef and sausage, and cook until browned and no longer pink. Use a Spoonula to break the meat apart into small pieces as it cooks. Add the garlic and stir. Add the marinara sauce, diced tomatoes, and stir again. Season with Italian seasoning, salt and pepper. Reduce the temperature to low and cook for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the eggs, parsley and 1-1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese; mix well. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Transfer most of the meat sauce to a bowl, leaving approximately one-fourth of it in the Gran Cacerola. Place a layer of pasta noodles over the sauce in the utensil, breaking the noodles if needed. Layer another one-fourth of the meat sauce on top, and spread evenly. Gently spread half of the cream cheese mixture over the sauce. Top with 2 cups of mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers, ending with meat sauce and top with 1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese.
Cover the Gran Cacerola, place it in the oven and bake for 30 minutes. Carefully remove the cover as the knob will be hot. Continue baking for 15 minutes or until the cheese has melted and is bubbly. Remove the lasagna from the oven and allow it to sit for at least 5 minutes. Serve and enjoy!
